Boosting Your Immune System Naturally

If by an apple a day you mean the entire panoply of fruits, vegetables and herbs including teas, then you are on the right track. By eating a large variety of these natural foods in meals and homemade juices, you will receive many of the micronutrients your immune system needs to keep you healthy naturally.

Whenever possible buy organic fruits, vegetables and herbs, as this will protect you from pesticide residue that may be found on inorganic produce. Where you cannot find organic produce, inorganic produce is better than nothing. But, don’t forget to wash both organic and inorganic produce before you eat or juice them.

Washing your fruits, vegetables and herbs should cost you nothing more than finding a large bowl, 1 tablespoon of table salt, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Fill the bowl with water about an inch to the brim, add the table salt and lemon juice, and stir until the salt dissolves. Put the produce in the mixture for 5 minutes, drain out the mixture and refill the bowl with fresh water and rinse the produce. After rinsing they are ready to be eaten or juiced.

Fruits and vegetables you may want to eat or drink in meals or juices to boost your immune system will include watermelons, winter squash, avocados, grapefruit, asparagus, garlic, tomatoes, potatoes, okra, cauliflower, broccoli, cantaloupe, carrot, oranges, peaches and strawberries. With the organic ingredients, the rankings of the microbiome and immune system products should be checked. Complete research can be made at the online search engines to get the best relief. The vegetables will be herbal and organic for the health of the person without side-effects. The drinking and consumption will be favorable for the person for long period.

That said, it is important to know that fruits, vegetables and herbs do not cure diseases, they maintain good health once you have acquired it. Therefore, not going to see your doctor when you are sick, and hoping that fruits, vegetable and herbs will cure you is a bad idea.

Having regular medical check-ups to uncover any hidden illness you might have before it is too late should be your top priority. Early discovery of diseases are much easier to cure and cost less than when in their advance stages. Once you are medically cured, you can then maintain your good health naturally with juices made from fruits, vegetables and herbs, in addition to a balanced diet and regular age-appropriate physical exercise.

These sensible foods and physical exercise will go to strengthen your immune system, responsible for protecting your organs and internal body processes. Your immune system comprises of specialized cells, proteins, tissues and organs designed to defend your body against invading microorganisms and harmful substances.

The major players in your body immune system are the white cells or leukocytes, produced in the bone marrow. Their job is to seek out disease-causing microorganisms and toxic substances, and destroy them.

Leukocytes are of two kinds: phagocytes and lymphocytes. Phagocytes are cells that capture and chew up invading microorganisms, while lymphocytes recognize previous micro-invaders and helps the body to destroy them. Lymphocytes are made up of B lymphocytes and T lymphocytes, both important in your body defense system.

So far I have been talking about specialized cells responsible for defending your body. When healthy, these cells are able to fully defend your body against disease-causing microorganisms and toxic substances. However, they can be weakened or completely destroyed by certain immune deficiencies.

Immunodeficiency Disorder is when part of the immune system is missing or not working properly. An example of this immune deficiency is AIDS; where the B lymphocytes, T lymphocytes or phagocytes are either severely weakened or destroyed.

Autoimmune Disorder is when the immune system mistakenly attacks the body healthy organs and tissues, as though they were invading microorganisms. An example of this deficiency is lupus.

Allergic Disorder is an overreaction of the immune system to exposure to antigens in the environment. An example is asthma. Allergens in the air will provoke an allergic disorder resulting in sneezing, and in severe cases anaphylaxis.

Cancer of the immune system is when the immune cells reproduce out of control. For example, abnormal growth of the the leukocytes and lymphoid tissues will cause cancers such as, lymphoma and leukemia in children and in adults.

When diagnosed with any of these immune deficiencies, get the best medical care available to you; and tell your doctor about your regular intake of homemade juices from fruits, vegetables and herbs. Tell your doctor also about the type of teas you are drinking to help him or her evaluate and incorporate your effort to naturally boost your immune system into your overall treatment.

You will notice that I have put a lot of emphasis on the cell to press the argument that the key to maintaining good health naturally is taking care of your cells. Once your cells are provided the right micronutrients from homemade juices, a balanced diet and adequate oxygen from regular age-appropriate physical exercise, your immune system will get a boost, and keep you healthy naturally.

Easy, Healthy Dog Cookie (or Treat) Recipes

With four large dogs in the family, I’ve had to evaluate the nutrition of the food and treats that we buy to ensure long, healthy lives for our faithful companions. You’d be surprised by how many dog food companies produce sub-par meals and snacks that do more harm than good. Here are some easy recipes (most with ingredients you probably already have) you can use to make your own dog treats, giving your furry friend years of longevity. These are three treat/cookie recipes that my dogs prefer. I hope yours likes them as well!

Penny’s Peanut Butter Dog Treats Recipe (for the peanut butter loving dog):

  • 2 cups whole-wheat (or regular baking) flour
  • 1 tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 cup peanut butter (Jif seems to work best)
  • 1 cup milk (canned or fresh, stay away from soymilk)

Preheat oven to 375’F. In a bowl, combine the dry ingredients (flour and baking powder). In a separate bowl, mix the wet ingredients (peanut butter and milk). Add the dry ingredients to the wet and combine thoroughly. Take the dough out of the bowl, place on a lightly floured surface and knead (be sure everything is combined). Roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness and use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes or alternatively use a knife to cut squares (dropping directly on a cookie sheet doesn’t work well for this recipe, uniform thickness is key). Bake for about 15 minutes on a greased baking sheet until lightly brown. Remove immediately, cool on a rack, and store in an airtight container. Cookies will last several days; frozen treats will last 3-4 months.

Sammy’s Swell Breath Buster Dog Cookies Recipe (for the dog with bad breath):

  • 2 cups whole wheat (or regular baking) flour
  • 1/2 cups cornmeal
  • 1/3 cups chopped fresh mint (1 tbsp dried mint)
  • 1/2 cups chopped fresh parsley (1.5 tbsp dried parsley)
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 6 tbsp safflower (or vegetable) oil

Preheat oven to 350′. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, chopped mint and parsley. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4‚Ä≥ thickness. Cut dough in to shapes with cookie cutters or use a knife to cut in to squares (dropping directly on a cookie sheet doesn’t work well for this recipe, uniform thickness is key). Place shapes on to lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake for about 40 min and allow treats to stay in the oven a few hours or overnight before removing. Store in an airtight container in the fridge.

Daisy and Dixie’s Favorite Breakfast Bars Recipe (this recipe makes lots of cookies for the large canine family):

  • 12 cup oatmeal
  • 4 cup whole wheat (or regular baking) flour
  • 8 eggs
  • 3/4 cup oil (vegetable works best)
  • 2/3 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 2 cups milk (evaporated or fresh)
  • Optional:
  • 1 can solid pack pumpkin or 1 large mashed sweet potato
  • 3-4 mashed bananas

Preheat oven to 325′. Use a very large bowl for this recipe (must be able to hold 16 cups of dry ingredients). Mix everything together with hands (it’s easiest to start with dry and add wet, stirring together continuously) and pat on to greased cookie sheets about 1/4″ to 1/2″ thick. Cook for an hour, then let cookies cool on baking sheets for about an hour before breaking them in to whatever size your dog prefers. Causes of Chronic Bad Dog Breath

Stinky, hot dog breath can make even the biggest dog-lover wrinkle her nose and turn away. When bacteria builds up in your dog’s mouth, stomach or lungs, you’ll smell it. This root cause of bad dog breath — or canine halitosis — indicates your pet needs further attention, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Virtual Pet Behaviorist.

Dental Diseases Cause Stinky Dog Breath

Like humans, dogs can experience gum disease, tartar build up, abscessed teeth and oral infections. This variety of dental problems all share one common symptom — stinky dog breath.

If you notice excessive yellowing or brown build up on your dog’s teeth, swollen gums, drooling, the pet shying away from food and treats, overall depression or any type of exudates coming from the dog’s mouth, the pet needs an examination by a veterinarian for a proper diagnosis. The pet may require a tooth extraction, medication or a deep dental cleaning to remedy it’s bad breath.

The number one cause of canine halitosis is gum disease and by the age of three years, 80 percent of dogs are diagnosed with this foul-breath disease.

Poor Dental Hygiene = Dog Mouth Odor

Fight against canine dental disease and chronic bad dog breath before it starts. Liquid oral cleaners added to the pet’s water, daily tooth brushings and feeding the pet hard, abrasive foods promotes good dental hygiene.

Check your pet’s mouth for any foreign objects such as a piece of a stick from the yard, leaves or even bits of fur. Dogs with long fur near the mouth can accidentally get strands of fur trapped between their teeth. The moist, rotting fur causes a foul mouth odor.

When you give your dog a treat, throw it a bone, hard rubber toy or nylon-based chew. Chewing on tough toys creates friction against the pet’s teeth and dislodges food debris and tartar.

Bad Breath as an Illness Indicator

If your pet’s dental care is top notch and it’s mouth is free of any signs of dental disease, the pet’s bad breath may indicate an internal illness.

Smell the dog’s breath and take note of the odor. If the breath has a slightly sweet scent or rubbing alcohol-type odor, the pet could have diabetes. Does the pet drink excessive amounts of water and frequently urinate too? If you answer “yes” ask you veterinarian to test for diabetes.

If your canine’s halitosis has a urine-type odor, have its kidneys examined. For pets that vomit frequently, have a yellow cast to their gums and eyes and are reluctant to eat, liver disease may be the culprit.

Once you’ve determined the cause of your canine friend’s bad breath, tackle it. Simply masking canine halitosis with flavored dog treats or mint candy won’t solve the problem — and could even cause the root problem to grow more serious from neglect.

Bad breath is a universal problem among humans and animals but while the former can get rid of it by brushing teeth, dogs aren’t so lucky so if the problem continues to persist you can visit my site titled Pup life for more info to find a solution.

Tips on Adopting a New Dog

Are you or a family member thinking about getting a new dog or puppy? Will this be your first pet or do you have others at home? Do you have any children at home? Are they old enough to help out with the new family addition or are you adopting a new dog while your children are very young so that way your kids will grow up with the new puppy? These are just a few of the very beginning questions that you need to start asking yourself before you or your family proceed with the adoption. Getting a new dog and bringing him or her into your home is a huge decision that will take the support of everyone in the family. It’s not like shopping for a new toy, your bringing a whole new member into the family! Because this is such a big deal here are some questions you and everyone else in your family should ask before you go to pick up that cuddly new puppy and sign the adoption papers.

Big dog or little dog? Do you live in a small city rise apartment or do you own a large home on a nice sizable piece of land? Even if it has always been your dream to own a beautiful German Sheppard, it just wouldn’t be fare to the dog to adopt him if you live in a one bedroom apartment and you cant give him the opportunity to run and stretch that he deserves. So, make sure you are realistic about where you live and how often you will be able to let your dog run and play. This will be a big determination of what size and temperament of dog you adopt.

Do you have young children at home or do you live by yourself? If you have many people in your home; specifically children, your going to want to pick out a breed of dog that is very patient, loving, and can handle a lot of commotion. A Labrador for example is known to love being in a family atmosphere and can handle a lot of children running around and screaming without being phased. But a Dalmatian is known not to naturally get along with children very naturally and would take quite a bit more training to make him feel comfortable around a large family.

How often is there someone at the house? This will be a big determination on how young of a dog and how well trained of a dog you should get. If you live by yourself and work long hours it just wouldn’t be fare to the dog to adopt a tiny brand new puppy if you don’t have time to teach him what he can and cannot play with and how to housebreak him. Or, if you have to have that new puppy are you financially able to provide him with a well certified training program to teach him the things that maybe you don’t have the time to teach him? Maybe it/s the complete opposite and there are always people coming in and out of the house. In that case you want to make sure everyone in the family is ready for the adoption of the new pet and willing to pull their share in helping with the feeding, cleaning, and taking care of the new adoption.

Weight out what it will cost to take care of the dog for a year. A lot of Humane Societies will ask you to roughly figure out about how much you think you will end up paying in a years time, so it’s good to come prepared to show that you have thought adequately about this. Remember, although many dogs are spayed or neutered and have a lot of their shots there are still other costs to take into consideration. Not only do you need to factor in food, but lots of cities will have you pay a dog fee, you need to take your dog on annual checkups, and don’t forget grooming and toys!

As a new pet owner, you might be overwhelmed by several things. Hence, it is advisable that before adopting a dog, make sure to do your research first and educate yourself on how to properly take good care of a pet. You can [google_bot_show][/google_bot_show]use this link for more information.

So before you head off to get that new puppy get everyone in your family together, sit down, and discus what you each believe your new roles will be with helping out with the new addition and what expectations everyone has. Believe me, you dog will thank you.
